Savon de Marseille (Marseille Soap) pure Palm oil soap from the South of France
Savon de Marseille (Marseille Soap) is crafted by hand just as it has been for hundreds of years. Since 1688 French law has declared that only soaps that are produced by following certain ancient methods, and containing only the purest ingredients, shall bear the famous mark "Savon de Marseille." It takes the Maitre de Savon (soapmaster) two weeks to make Marseille Soap. The delicate mixture of gentle palm oils, alkaline ash from sea plants and Mediterranean Sea salted water are heated for ten days in antique cauldrons. Know-how passed down through the generations will reveal to the soapmaker the right moment to pour the mixture into open pits where it slowly hardens. Cut into cubes and stamped, the soaps are set out to dry in the sun and cool winds. Savon de Marseille is again being rediscovered for its extraordinary purity and gentle skin care, and its popularity is again on the rise worldwide. Marseille Soap is traditionally green or white. The white soap is made with palm oil, the green with at least 50% olive oil. Both varieties are exquisite, ultra-moisturizing skin care. Marseille Soap is recommended by dermatologists throughout the world for dry skin and other ailments. Its incredible purity and moisturizing properties make it ideal for sensitive skins. In France it has been trusted for generations to cleanse everything from linens to little faces. Marseille Soap is totally biodegradable, requires little packaging and its manufacture is environmentally friendly. Authentic Marseille Soap is stamped with its weight in grams - a practice left over from years ago which allowed households to compare prices and plan their inventories.
Savon de Marseille with palm oil is the most PH neutral for extremely sensitive skin types including dry skin and eczema. It's also the popular choice in France for kitchen and laundry uses. This is true Savon de Marseille, hand-made by dedicated artisans with deep respect for the techniques passed down through the generations.
Customer Reviews:
NOT as pictured (2010-04-17) Rating: 2/5
I was very disappointed with this purchase. I was looking for the palm oil cakes in white and handle-able. These cakes are huge, not white - not at all what was
pictured. I would not send them back because of the ridiculous postage prices.
Great soap. (2009-06-11) Rating: 4/5
Excellent feel without added fragrance. Too bad it's not as inexpensive as 5 years ago...
LOVE THAT MARSEILLE!!! (2009-01-22) Rating: 5/5
The palm oil block of Marseille soap is just fantastic! It would be great for someone who has allergies, as this soap has no fragrance. It creates a rich, creamy lather & makes your skin feel absolutely soft & clean with no residue. You have to learn to handle these big blocks of soap, though. You could cut them in half for easier handling. The soaps last a rather long time. The olive oil soaps are very good for your skin, as they do not tend to remove the outer protective layer of your skin (stratum corneum). My husband & I are wound care professionals & we highly recommend these soaps, especially the olive oil (72%).
Great French Soap (2008-01-18) Rating: 5/5
I purchased this soap for myself and as gifts. I have been using it on my mature, dry skin and it has worked just fine. And the faint delicate fragrance is good, as well. I am interested in using natural products free of synthetic fragrance and harsh chemicals. This soap fits the bill.

This is an excellent product to do hand laundry or rub some in on shirt collars or stains before putting the laundry in the washer. I have used it for many years and wouldn want to do without it
